What Holds the Fence Up
Frisco is one of the few cities around here that writes real construction standards into its fence code. Post material, post spacing, how deep the footings go. We built to those numbers before Frisco put them in writing.
Posts go 3 feet into the ground, in heavy duty galvanized steel, coated so rust never gets started.
Spaced at 6 feet on center, which is already inside Frisco's tighter requirement for tall fences. Most crews default to 8.
A kicker board runs along the base so no board sits on damp ground. The city says wood cannot contact soil, and the kicker is how we keep it clear.
Pre-stained cedar handles a Frisco rule most homeowners don't know about. The city wants the wood on a new fence sealed shortly after it goes up. Boards that arrive already finished take care of that the day the fence goes up.
What Goes Back Up
The replacement is our standard build. 8 foot pre-stained cedar, board on board, capped along the top. That is the tallest a Frisco rear yard can go. Pick a shorter height if that suits your lot. The posts and framing underneath stay the same.

What are Frisco's construction standards for a fence?
Frisco's code spells them out in Section 18-491. Galvanized steel posts at least 2-3/8 inches in diameter, concrete footings at least 8 inches across, and tighter post spacing once a fence reaches 7 feet. Our spec matches those numbers on every build.
Frisco says my fence wood has to be sealed within 30 days. How does that work?
Pre-stained cedar arrives with the finish already on it, so that requirement is satisfied the day the fence goes up. If you choose unstained wood, you have 30 days from installation to get the stain or sealer on.
Do I need a permit and a registered contractor in Frisco?
Yes to both. Frisco requires a fence permit for new and replacement fences, and the contractor has to be registered with the city before the permit is issued. We handle the registration and the permit as part of the job.
My fence is at 7 feet. Does going to 8 change the build?
It can. Frisco's code tightens the post spacing from 8 feet maximum to 6 feet maximum once you cross 7 feet, and requires deeper footings. We already build at 6-foot spacing and 3-foot depth on every fence, so our spec covers the taller threshold without any changes.
Half my street is getting new fences. Should I wait?
No advantage to waiting. The wave is a build date, not a season. Getting on the schedule early is the only real upside. Spring after a storm is when everyone calls at once.
My lot is on the Denton County side of Frisco. Does that matter?
Not for the fence. Frisco's code is the same across the county line. Collin and Denton both received FEMA designation after the May 2024 storm, if that is part of your situation. We work on both sides.
