Fence Installation
Murphy caps residential fences at eight feet, right where our signature build sits. You can have a new cedar fence built to Murphy’s eight foot limit, board on board. The boards overlap, so there’s no gap to see through.
Cedar Fence Installation
Murphy’s code lists cedar as an accepted fence wood, and it’s the only wood we build in. We’d steer you off treated pine, which warps and goes jagged along the top within months. Cedar that holds its shape in Texas heat doesn’t.
Pre-Stained Cedar Fence Installation
Our cedar shows up already stained. The finish goes on evenly before a single board reaches your Murphy yard. That’s cedar stained before it is installed, not a fence coated after it’s standing in your yard.
Wrought Iron Fence Installation
Some Murphy lots back onto the Maxwell Creek greenbelt or sit over a drainage easement. Murphy’s easement rule calls for removable sections there. Ornamental iron along a creek easement does that job, and it keeps the view open.
Murphy’s Fence Code
Murphy is one of the few cities around here that writes into its own code how deep a fence post has to go. Most cities leave that to whoever is building the fence. Murphy does not. Our standard build already sets posts three feet down, which meets what the city asks for. We build that way in every city we work, whether the city checks or not. In Murphy, the part of the fence you never see is written into the code. That suits us.
Height. Murphy allows a tall back fence, measured from the ground on your side.
Post depth. The city sets a minimum, and it goes deeper as the fence goes taller. Ours already clears it.
Repair permit. A small repair usually does not need one. A larger stretch does. We tell you which one your job is.
Front yard. Murphy keeps front yard fences low and mostly see-through.
Back to back fences. Murphy will not let two fences sit right up against each other.
Leaning. A fence that leans past a certain point can draw a citation from the city.
Final inspection. The city inspects the finished fence and either accepts it or rejects it.
Posts face in. Where a privacy fence faces a public street, the posts go on the inside of the property.
We work from the City of Murphy’s fence ordinance and check the current version against your lot before we quote it. Murphy regulates how deep the posts go, not how far apart they sit. We set ours six feet apart instead of the eight foot industry standard, purely for strength. Posts are galvanized steel, coated so they will not rust, and every fence gets a kicker board along the ground so your boards never touch dirt.

When I called Bill he answered the phone and we made an appointment to get an estimate to repair my fence. He showed up on time and provided a reasonable estimate. Our trucks run Murphy Road, which is FM 2551, plus FM 544, Betsy Lane, McCreary Road and Renner Road. Do I need a permit to replace a fence in Murphy?
Yes. Murphy requires a permit for just about every fence built in the city. The city asks for two site plans, including a survey plat, the drawing that shows your lot lines. They have to show the fence line, easements, the house, and any pools on your lot or next door. Check with your HOA first, since Murphy’s permit fees aren’t refundable.
