How Pre-Staining Works
Most fences get built first and stained later. That turns the color into a promise for another day. We do it the other way around. The stain goes on the material before the first board is hung. The fence is done when we drive away.

Every side of every board is finished before it goes up, including faces that get pressed together forever.
What Pre-Stained Means
- It means the boards get their color before they become a fence. The boards, the horizontal supports, and the trim are all stained first. Then we build with them.
- Pre-stained boards. Finished on all sides before they’re hung. Good for the homeowner who doesn’t want raw wood sitting in the sun, waiting on a stain date.
- Pre-stained horizontal supports and rot board. These are the parts closest to the ground, and the parts your boards press against.
- Pre-stained top cap and trim. For the homeowner who wants the finished look complete on day one.

We build these all over Plano, and out into Frisco and McKinney. Our signature build uses a board on board layout. The boards overlap, so there are no gaps to see through. The same finish shows up in most of the other fence builds we offer.
Some homeowners want the raw look and plan to handle the color themselves. A cedar fence with no stain on it is still a good fence. We build it to the same spec.
Staining Timeline for New Cedar
New cedar needs about two to four weeks to dry before it will take a finish. Stain it too early and the oil can’t soak in. It dries blotchy and fades within months. Wait too long and the bare wood starts to gray, which means cleaning it before any stain will take. The water test tells you where you are: flick a little water on a board, and if it beads up the wood is still too wet. A fence that was stained before it was built never has that window at all.
Already have a raw fence standing? Then pre-staining is off the table for that one. If your boards and poles are still solid and only the color has gone, that’s a color job on a fence you already have, not a new fence.
Full Board Coverage
A board has six faces. Standing at a finished fence with a brush, you can reach one of them and part of another. We finish all six before a board is ever hung.
- The good side that everyone sees.
- The back side that faces your neighbor.
- Both long edges, where boards sit against each other.
- The top end, and the bottom end closest to the ground.
That bottom end is the one that matters most. On our builds the boards never touch dirt, because the rot board along the bottom takes that duty.
The Build Process
The fence has one finish date, and it’s the day we drive away. Most jobs run two to three days. Day one is demo. We tear out the old fence and haul it off, and other yard junk can go with it. Post holes start the same day.
From there it’s framing, then the pre-stained boards go up, then gates, then upgrades like a top cap. We haul off every bit of debris we create.

Do you offer a warranty on a pre-stained cedar fence?
Yes. Every fence we build comes with guaranteed satisfaction and a 3 year craftsmanship warranty on new fence installations. That covers our work on the build itself. If something we did isn’t right, we come back and make it right.
How long does the job take?
Usually two to three days.
Do I need a permit for a new fence in Plano?
Yes. A full fence replacement in Plano needs a permit, and we handle that conversation as part of the job. The City of Plano publishes the current requirements if you want the details.
Can I get a pre-stained fence taller than my neighbor’s?
Plano caps a fence at 8 feet, so that’s the ceiling for everybody. Our signature pre-stained build is exactly 8 feet. Front yard fences are held much lower and have to be mostly open.
Is financing available?
