Plano’s Clay Soil and Fence Posts
Plano sits on Blackland Prairie clay. It swells when it’s wet and shrinks when it’s dry, and it moves a lot. Plano homeowners already know this ground from foundation work. Almost nobody connects it to fence posts.
The mechanism is simple. A post set shallow in this dirt gets pushed and pulled every season. It works loose. Then the first hard wind takes the fence over. Homeowners here talk about poles snapping off right at ground level. Loose posts are what gives out first.
Our answer is a set of numbers you can go measure yourself.
- Posts go 3 feet into the ground, and up to 4 feet where the lot allows.
- Posts are ordered 3 feet longer than the fence. An 8 foot fence uses a 12 foot post.
- Posts are heavy duty galvanized steel, coated so they won’t rust.
- Posts sit 6 feet apart instead of the 8 foot industry standard, purely for strength.
- A kicker board, sometimes called a rot board, runs along the bottom of every fence we build.
Plano Fence Replacement Timeline
We start with an estimate and usually respond within 5 to 30 minutes during business hours. If the project is a full replacement, we confirm permit requirements before the crew is booked and call in utility locates a few business days before work begins. We text you when the locates are called, so you know to leave the gates unlocked.
On day one, the old fence comes out and goes on the truck, and we begin setting posts the same day. Framing, boards, gates, and upgrades like a top cap come next. We can take other yard junk while we’re there.
Once the build is complete, we handle any required inspection and clean up the jobsite. Most Plano fence replacements take two to three days, depending on the project.
