Why Cedar Works in North Texas

Cedar handles heat, humidity, and insects better than pine or spruce because the wood carries its own natural oils. Those oils resist rot and repel termites without a chemical treatment, which is why cedar stays the default fence board across Plano, Frisco, and McKinney. Left alone it weathers to a silver gray that is only surface deep. The wood underneath stays sound for years. Stained on a routine schedule, a cedar fence holds its color and can run 15 to 25 years before any board needs replacing.

Staining Options and Fence Styles

You can leave cedar bare and let it go gray, stain it yourself after it goes up, or order cedar that shows up already stained so the color is locked in from day one. Staining slows the weathering and keeps the warm tone longer, but the fence is structurally the same either way. The choice is cosmetic, not structural.

Cedar is also the board behind most of the fence styles we build. Board-on-board fences overlap the pickets so there is no ugly side. Horizontal layouts run cedar boards side to side instead of up and down. Full height privacy builds block the sightlines into your yard entirely. Every one of those designs starts with the same cedar and the same galvanized steel post system. The difference is how the boards go on.

What Happens After You Sign

You get text updates from us at least once a week: when your cedar is scheduled, when utility crews are coming out to mark buried lines, and when the team is on the way to your house. Most cedar fence jobs run two to three days once we start, and your build carries a 3 year craftsmanship warranty plus our guaranteed satisfaction.

How a Cedar Fence Install Goes

Call or message us and we answer in 5 to 30 minutes during business hours. We walk your fence line together so we can measure, check access, and price the real job. Day one is demo and posts. We tear out the old fence, haul it off, then dig and set galvanized steel posts 3 feet down and 6 feet apart. From there the crew frames, hangs the cedar boards, sets the gates, and finishes with a kicker board and top cap. Most homeowners have their yard back within two to three days.

  • My Mom and Dad found Mom’s Fence Man they were so pleased with their quality workmanship on their new fence and I was so happy to hear how they had such a great experience. I also had a beautiful new gate with fence built and most recently a new beautiful shared backyard fence. They went above and beyond communicating from the beginning with several easy to understand quotes to updates through the materials arriving and updates of their arrival on the day of work. Throughout the process from the beginning up to the building of my new fence I was able to continue my daily work and scheduled appointments with no interruptions and have peace of mind.

  • My experience with Mom’s Fence Man in replacing my old 6’ fence with a beautifully crafted 8’ fence was 100% positive. The communication was excellent from start to finish. I always knew what to expect and the timelines given were accurate so I was able to plan my time accordingly. Bill helped with the design options and I couldn’t be happier with the results. Home repairs and improvements have always been something I dread, but this experience showed me that doesn’t have to be the case if you have the right company. I highly recommend them.

  • When I called Bill he answered the phone and we made an appointment to get an estimate to repair my fence. He showed up on time and provided a reasonable estimate. Two weeks later as scheduled his reliable and professional crew arrived on time and completed my repairs the same day to my satisfaction. He was very nice and honest to work with. If I need more repairs in the future I will call him. I recommend you at least call for an estimate and I think you will be pleased! (I had called another company after I spoke to Bill to get a second estimate and to this day they never returned my call. That he answered my call impressed me a lot!)

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a cedar fence last in Plano?

A fence can easily last 15 to 25 years if properly built, maintained, cleaned, and stained on a routine schedule.

Does a cedar fence have to be stained?

No. Cedar can be left alone, and it will go gray on you. That gray is only surface deep, so a bare fence is still a solid fence. Want the color from the start? Cedar stained before it reaches your yard is how you get it.

Do I need a permit to replace my fence in Plano?

The rule goes by scope, not height. Small repairs usually do not need one. A whole fence does. We check what your lot needs before we quote it. We go over it when we walk your yard together.

Are you insured?

Yes, we’re insured. That matters because a crew, tools, and a truck will be on your property for a few days. We’re based in Plano, so we’re easy to reach before the job, during it, and after it.

What does your warranty cover?

New fence installations carry a 3 year craftsmanship warranty. Repairs carry a 3 month craftsmanship warranty, and staining work carries a 6 month craftsmanship warranty. Every job comes with guaranteed satisfaction. If the workmanship is the problem, we come back out and take care of it.

Do you offer financing?

Yes, through Wisetack. A new fence doesn’t have to come out of your pocket all at once.

How long does the job take?

Two to three days for most jobs, once we start. Day one is demo and posts. The rest comes down to the size of the fence, the gate count, and your yard access.

What happens to my old fence?

We tear it out and haul it off on day one. While we’re already there, we can take other yard junk with it. No dumpster to rent, no trips to make yourself.

Do you build in my part of Plano?

Yes, West Plano and Central Plano included. We also build in Allen, Richardson, and Murphy. Not sure whether we come out to your street? Call and ask.
