Frequently Asked Questions
Frisco says my fence wood has to be sealed within 30 days. What if I want unstained cedar?
You would need to get a stain or sealer on it within that window. Pre-stained cedar skips the question entirely because the finish is already on the boards when they arrive. Most Frisco homeowners we work with choose pre-stained for that reason.
Does the 7-foot line in Frisco's code change what goes in the ground?
Yes. Section 18-491 tightens two things at 7 feet. Post spacing drops from a maximum of 8 feet to 6 feet, and footing depth increases from 24 inches to 36 inches. Our spec already sits at 6-foot spacing and 3-foot depth on every build, so the fence meets the taller standard regardless of the height you choose.
Do I need a permit and a registered contractor for a privacy fence in Frisco?
Yes to both. Frisco requires a fence permit for new and replacement fences, and the contractor has to be registered with the city before the permit is issued. We take care of the registration and the permit as part of the job.
Our lots are close together. Will my neighbor see the ugly side?
No. Board on board shows the same finished face to both yards. That's one of the reasons we build it, and it takes an awkward conversation off the table before it starts.
My yard backs a greenbelt and people walk right past it. What do you recommend?
The same 8 foot build, and we'll pay attention to where the ground falls away along that back line. Lots backing a greenbelt or a pond are common in Frisco. The bottom of the fence is where privacy leaks on them, and the kicker board is what closes it.
My lot is on a corner. Does that change anything?
It can. Frisco keeps a clear view triangle at corners so drivers can see. That affects where a tall fence can start. We look at it on the walk through before we quote.
