Parker's Open Construction Rule
Most of our cities let you build a solid fence wherever you want one. Parker doesn't. The city requires open construction on most lots, meaning at least 50 percent of each panel surface must let you see through it. That rule shapes every privacy fence conversation we have out here.
Solid cedar is still allowed in Parker. But only in specific places: along Parker Road, Dillehay Drive, or Hogge Drive, or within 30 feet of a pool. Those are the exceptions the code names, and they cover the spots where privacy actually matters on a two-acre lot.
We check your property against Parker's code before anything gets priced. The places where solid fencing is permitted, the stretches that need an open style, and how the two meet all get sorted on the walk through.
Where Parker Allows Solid Fencing
On a two-acre lot, you don't need to screen the whole property. You couldn't afford to, and the city wouldn't allow it anyway. The job is about closing off the ground you actually use and leaving the rest open.
Pool Enclosures
Water pulls people outside and puts them in swimsuits. It is the single most common reason a Parker property gets a solid fence at all.
Parker's code allows solid fencing within 30 feet of a pool, with the finished side facing out. That radius typically covers the pool deck, the seating around it, and whatever patio furniture sits nearby. The fence wraps that area and stops where the use stops.
Solid Fencing Along Three Parker Roads
Lots fronting Parker Road, Dillehay Drive, or Hogge Drive can carry solid cedar along the roadway. These are the busiest roads through town, and the city carved them out of the open construction rule.
If your property sits on one of those roads, a solid run between your yard and the traffic makes sense. Open ground gives drivers a clear look across your lot from a distance you would never allow from a neighbor's window. A solid stretch along the road does more for how the property feels than anything along the back line would.
Patio and Outdoor Kitchen Runs
A covered patio or an outdoor kitchen is the other space worth closing in. You use it every evening, guests sit there, and it is the part of the yard that feels like a room. A solid run around that area turns it into one.
Where Open Fencing Resumes
A privacy stretch does not have to be the end of your fence. On most Parker properties the boundary keeps running long after the screening stops.
- Solid cedar around the pool, the patio, and the stretch facing the road.
- Ornamental iron along the open runs, marking the line and satisfying the 50 percent open rule without blocking the view you bought the land for.
- Both meeting at a planned corner, so the change reads as a decision, not a budget cutoff.

A Solid Run at 6 Feet
Parker's height limit is 6 feet on side and back yard fences. That is lower than Plano, Frisco, or McKinney, where 8 feet is common. Six feet of pre-stained cedar, board on board, with a top cap still closes a sight line from ground level. It screens a pool deck, a patio table, and anyone sitting in a chair.
Board on board means the boards overlap instead of meeting side by side. Nothing shows through from straight on or from an angle. Pre-stained means the color is already on the wood when it arrives. Both faces get looked at on a Parker lot, because there is no neighbor's fence behind yours to hide the back side.
- Pre-stained cedar gives both faces one even color the day the fence goes up.
- Board on board stays closed as the wood dries and shrinks, because the boards overlap rather than butt together.
- Cedar instead of pressure treated pine, which warps and goes jagged along the top in this heat.
Posts Under a Solid Fence on Open Ground
Six feet of solid cedar in the open catches everything the weather has. A solid fence is a sail, and all of that load lands on the posts. The buried half is where this build is won or lost.
Posts go 3 feet into the ground. On a lot where nothing breaks the wind, depth is what keeps the fence standing after a spring storm.
- Posts are heavy duty galvanized steel, coated so rust never gets started.
- Posts sit 6 feet apart, not the 8 feet the industry treats as standard. Parker's own column spacing rule calls for 6 feet center to center, which matches our standard everywhere.
- A kicker board runs the base, so no board sits on damp dirt.
A solid fence on an open lot takes more wind load per post than an open one does. That is exactly why Parker limits where solid fencing can go, and exactly why the posts underneath it have to be right.
How a Parker Privacy Fence Build Runs
- Call or message us, and we'll come stand in the yard and figure out which stretches qualify for solid fencing under Parker's code.
- We measure the solid run, the open runs if you want those done too, and work out where material gets staged on the property.
- Get your estimate, with the build and the permit spelled out.
- We pull the building permit and call ahead so the buried lines get marked before anyone digs.
- Demo first, then posts, framing, boards, and your cap.
- Parker inspects the finished fence, and we handle that scheduling. Two to three days is typical once we start, and a longer run gets its own schedule up front.

Can I build a solid privacy fence anywhere on my Parker lot?
Not anywhere. Parker requires 50 percent open construction on most lots. Solid fencing is allowed along Parker Road, Dillehay Drive, and Hogge Drive, and within 30 feet of a pool. Yes, and it is how most Parker jobs end up. Solid cedar around the pool and patio, ornamental iron along the rest of the boundary. We plan the corner where the two meet so the transition looks like a decision. One crew builds both on one schedule.
Which side of the fence faces out?
Board on board looks the same from both sides. There is no ugly side. On a Parker lot that matters more than it does in a subdivision, because your fence stands alone in the open with nothing behind it. You see both faces from your own property, and so does everyone passing by.
