Why Plano Homeowners Choose Mom's Fence Man

Picking a fence company comes down to trust more than most people expect, because almost nothing that decides how your fence turns out happens where you can watch it. Half the work goes underground. Two quotes can name the same height and the same wood and be nothing alike underneath all of that.

So we put the invisible part on paper. The spec goes on your estimate before anything is ordered: post material, post length, depth, spacing, and the kicker board along the bottom. Our posts are galvanized steel rather than wood, set deeper and closer together than the industry standard, which costs us more posts on every run and is the reason a fence line stays straight years later.

The rest comes down to who is in your yard. You get a crew that builds it the way they would if you were standing right behind them, and a text every week your job is open. We are Plano based, we are insured, and our work is backed by a craftsmanship warranty.

Fence Services

What We Build, Repair, and Stain

  • A fence showing the transition between raw wood and finished color.

    Fence Installation

Tear out, haul off, and a new fence from the posts up. This is most of what we do.

  • A crew member kneeling to repair and restain a gate brace.

    Fence Repair

Storm damage and posts that failed at the ground.

  • Two crew members staining a fence along a sidewalk.

    Fence Staining

Texas sun grays bare wood fast. Stain is what holds the color.

Our Signature Build

Cedar, Board on Board, and 8-Foot Fences

Ask us what to build and most of the time the answer is the same fence. Eight feet tall, cedar, board on board, pre-stained, with a top cap. It is the build we started on, and every piece of it is there for a reason. Cedar, because pressure treated pine pickets do not survive a Texas summer in good shape. They warp, and within a few months it can go jagged along the top of the fence.

Board on board comes next, because the boards overlap instead of butting side by side. Wood moves. It swells through a wet spring and shrinks through a dry August, and a fence built side by side opens gaps you can see through by the second year. An 8 foot board on board fence with a top cap stays closed the whole time. The stain matters for the same reason the posts do, which is that it goes where nobody can reach later. Color applied at the shop covers the faces and the edges a brush never gets to once the fence is standing, so cedar that arrives already stained is finished the day the crew drives off.

Eight feet is the last piece, and it is the tallest fence Plano allows. Six feet stops someone at ground level and does nothing about a second story window going up behind you. Nearly every one of these replaces a fence that failed, so a fence installation with us starts with demo. The old fence goes on the truck and post holes start the same afternoon. We are insured, our work is backed by a craftsmanship warranty, and financing is available through Wisetack.

  • My Mom and Dad found Mom’s Fence Man they were so pleased with their quality workmanship on their new fence and I was so happy to hear how they had such a great experience. I also had a beautiful new gate with fence built and most recently a new beautiful shared backyard fence. They went above and beyond communicating from the beginning with several easy to understand quotes to updates through the materials arriving and updates of their arrival on the day of work. Throughout the process from the beginning up to the building of my new fence I was able to continue my daily work and scheduled appointments with no interruptions and have peace of mind.

  • My experience with Mom’s Fence Man in replacing my old 6’ fence with a beautifully crafted 8’ fence was 100% positive. The communication was excellent from start to finish. I always knew what to expect and the timelines given were accurate so I was able to plan my time accordingly. Bill helped with the design options and I couldn’t be happier with the results. Home repairs and improvements have always been something I dread, but this experience showed me that doesn’t have to be the case if you have the right company. I highly recommend them.

  • When I called Bill he answered the phone and we made an appointment to get an estimate to repair my fence. He showed up on time and provided a reasonable estimate. Two weeks later as scheduled his reliable and professional crew arrived on time and completed my repairs the same day to my satisfaction. He was very nice and honest to work with. If I need more repairs in the future I will call him. I recommend you at least call for an estimate and I think you will be pleased! (I had called another company after I spoke to Bill to get a second estimate and to this day they never returned my call. That he answered my call impressed me a lot!)

  • I ordered a new prestained cedar fence (46 ft x 8 ft) for the east side of my backyard, from Mom's Fence Man. The fence was build in one day, about 3 weeks after the order. This included 8 steel posts, embedded in concrete. My existing fences, on the north and south sides, were washed and stained, as permitted by the weather. In addition, a new gate was incorporated into my north side fence. Mom's crews did a very good job. I paid 50% of the contract price in advance.

  • What we contracted for, we received in a timely professional manner. The proprietor was knowledgeable and delivered in a very prompt manner.

Bill responded incredibly fast to my initial request for a quote and showed great professional courtesy by presenting several viable options for my wood fence repairs. The repairs included replacing a broken wood gate and top cap, repairing aging boards, and perfectly matching and applying the fence stain. Throughout the process, they kept me well-informed on scheduling and progress. Understanding that I was preparing for my son's wedding, they went the extra mile to complete the entire job in just a couple of days—well ahead of schedule! They were incredibly respectful of my property and did not make a mess at all while working. For impeccable neighborly and professional customer service, combined with the delivery of an excellent work product, Bill and his team deserve the highest praise. I will absolutely use them again!

  • We had a great experience with this company from start to finish. After signing the contract, they started the project in less than two weeks, and materials and equipment arrived quickly. Our project involved removing the old fence and rebuilding everything. The existing concrete posts were extremely difficult to dig out, but the crew handled the job professionally and efficiently. We had a fairly large amount of fencing to replace, and they completed the entire project in just four days. After the installation, they also cleaned and stained some of the older fence sections. The cleaning was very thorough, they paid attention to every corner and detail, and the finished result looks great. This was our first time dealing with a major fence replacement project, and we’re very glad we chose this company. The new fence looks fantastic, and we couldn’t be happier with the results.

  • We were in need of a fence company that could replace old cracked boards and add some screws to hold the fence together until we can save for a new fence. Mom's Fence Man provided a quote and we scheduled a day/time. The outcome was great and so was their communication by notifying us when they were on their way. The wood they used was good quality which was also impressive. There was no stress in getting this done. They also fixed our gate. We know who to contact when it's time for a new fence.

  • We recently used Mom’s Fence Man for the replacement of our fence. It's hard to give a review of the quality or the price that was charged since I don't have a point of comparison for those two areas. What I am qualified to say is that we were very pleased with the work that they did. Also, if I was making my decision again today on who to use, I would again choose Mom’s Fence Man. We were very pleased with the communication during the whole process and also with the appearance of the final product.

  • I recently had Mom’s Fence come out to repair two gates on my fence, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the experience. They showed up promptly to provide an estimate and took the time to clearly explain the work they recommended, which I really appreciated. When it came time for the repair, the quality of their work was excellent. Both gates are now functioning perfectly and look great. On top of that, the pricing was very fair for the level of service and craftsmanship provided. Overall, a smooth and professional experience from start to finish. I would definitely recommend Mom’s Fence to anyone needing fence repairs.

  • Mom’s Fence Man was professional, had great communication, and did a fantastic job on building our fence. After dealing with a fence company that stole our money, Bill stepped in and assured us the job would be done on time and correctly. He lived up to all of his promises and we were wowed by the results. Our fence looks amazing and each person working for the company did a great job. • I am incredibly late in leaving a review, but have to share our endorsement of Bill! We used his services back in 2023 for fence repair and it’s still standing strong years later. He was quick to communicate, professional, friendly and honest. In a very noisy word of handymen and repair services, Bill stands out. Thank you for your help! We have been thrilled with how it has lasted all these months.

  • Wow, what an excellent job Mom’s Fence Man did on our fences this January. We needed the street-facing fence and gate replaced, the side fence straightened and aligned, and an older 2nd gate fixed. Bill and his team removed and replaced crooked posts into new 4ft base holes, negotiated an existing huge oak tree, shrubs, tree roots, and irrigation lines to replace the fence, rebuilt and strengthened another gate, and left work areas immaculate. This was a challenging job that Bill and his team executed with exquisite attention to details, great workmanship, and a fair price. His business practices matched the excellence of his fence services. I am delighted to recommend Mom’s Fence Man - we plan to use them for all our fencing needs going forward.

Fence Types We Build

Three services and six builds, and every one of them goes on the same posts.

  • Cedar

Cedar holds its shape through a Texas summer.

  • Pre-Stained Cedar

Color goes on the boards before they reach your yard, on faces and edges a brush cannot reach.

  • Privacy

Eight feet is the tallest fence Plano allows, and it closes off the upstairs window next door.

  • Board on Board

Overlapping boards with no see through gaps, even after the wood moves.

  • Horizontal

Boards run side to side and carry the span themselves, so post spacing decides whether the line stays level.

  • Wrought Iron

The one build here that is not wood. It goes around a pool, or across a front yard.

From First Call to Finished Fence

  1. Reach out and tell us what you need. We reply quickly during business hours.
  2. We come out and walk the yard with you. You'll know exactly what we're building and what it costs before anything starts.
  3. Get the spec in writing. Post material, post length, depth, spacing, and the kicker board, all of it on paper before anything is ordered.
  4. Know what's happening. You'll get texts when material is scheduled, when utilities are marked, and the day before we start.
  5. Meet the crew. You will get a text when the team is on the way to your house and again on the way out.
  6. Walk the finished fence. Two to three days is typical, and the debris we make goes out on the truck.

Local Expertise

Fences Built for Blackland Prairie Clay

Plano sits on Blackland Prairie clay, and we see what that means for fences all the time. The soil swells when it is wet, shrinks when it is dry, and keeps the ground moving throughout the year. A shallow post gets pushed one season and pulled the next until it starts working loose. The fence can look fine while it is happening, then a hard wind comes through and the run goes over. Posts snapping near ground level are one of the most common failures we repair around Plano.

That combination of moving soil and strong wind is why we build the way we do. Hail and 80 mph gusts crossed Collin County in May 2024, and Plano saw another damaging windstorm in March 2025. We cannot control the weather or the ground, but we can build for both. We set posts deep, keep them close together, and use the same proven construction standards on every fence we build in Plano.

Mature trees create a different kind of wear. Many older Plano neighborhoods have established canopies sitting right along the fence line, which means more shade, moisture, sap, and debris against the wood. A fence in full sun and one under a mature elm are not going to age the same way. We account for those conditions too, because they are part of building a fence here that lasts.

Fence Company in Plano Frequently Asked Questions

What does Mom's Fence Man do?

Three things, all of them fences. We install them, we repair them, and we stain them. Installation is most of the work, and nearly all of it is a tear out and replace rather than a brand new build. Repair covers storm damage and posts that failed at the ground. Staining goes on fences we built and on fences somebody else put up. Staining is seasonal, so we schedule it outside the hot summer and freezing winter months.

What areas do you serve?

Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Allen, Richardson, Parker, Murphy, and New Hope, Texas. Our shop is at 3129 Rocky Mountain Dr in north Plano. Every town on that list is a short drive from it. Most of the work sits in Collin County. Richardson is the exception, since the county line runs through it and part of the work there lands in Dallas County. The fence gets built the same way on either side of that line.

Are you licensed and insured?

We are insured on every job, and that does not change with the address. On licensing, the straight answer is that Texas does not license fence contractors, so there is no state license for any fence company here to hold. What that means for you is that a license is not the thing to compare when you are weighing two quotes. Ask about insurance, ask what goes in the ground, and ask what the warranty actually covers. Ours covers 3 years on installations, 3 months on repairs, and 6 months on staining.

Do you build commercial fences?

Yes, however our priority is with Collin County residents. Residential fences in this part of Texas come with their own list of problems: city height rules that change at every line, HOA guidelines, shared fence lines with a neighbor, pool enclosures, and clay that moves under the posts. If the property is yours and the fence is yours, we are the right call.

How fast can you come look at my fence?

We respond quickly during business hours, but we do not rush estimates. Every project gets careful planning before anything starts. The estimate is worth doing in person, because a fence problem is hard to describe over the phone and easy to see standing in the yard. We set up a time, walk the line with you, look at what is around it, and tell you what we would build there and why. The spec goes in writing before anything is ordered.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes. New fence installations carry a 3 year craftsmanship warranty. Repairs carry a 3 month craftsmanship warranty, and staining work carries a 6 month craftsmanship warranty. A guaranteed satisfaction commitment comes with every job. Three years on an install is long enough to take a fence through several wet and dry swings in this clay, and that is when a post that was set badly starts to show itself.

What kind of posts do you use, and how deep do they go?

Galvanized steel, coated so they will not rust. They go 3 feet into the ground, and up to 4 feet where the yard allows it. Posts sit 6 feet apart instead of the usual 8, purely for strength. A kicker board runs along the bottom so your boards never touch dirt. All of it goes in your estimate, in writing.

What wood do you build with?

Cedar, on every wood fence, whatever style you pick. Cedar holds its shape through a Texas summer, which is why we build with it. The one build we do that is not wood at all is wrought iron, which is what goes around a pool, or across a front yard where the city wants a fence you can see through.

How long does the job take?

Two to three days is typical, depending on the project. Day one is demo. The old fence comes out and goes on the truck, and post holes start the same afternoon. Framing and boards follow, then gates, then the top cap and trim where the job calls for it. We haul off all the debris we make. Before any of that, you get a text when the utility line locates are called, since crews will be in your yard within three to four business days to mark what is buried. Leave the gate unlatched for them.

Do you offer financing?

Yes, through Wisetack. Ask about it at the estimate and we will get you set up. It matters more than it sounds like it should, because it often decides what gets built. An 8 foot cedar board on board fence with a top cap is a bigger project than a plain replacement, and financing is frequently the difference between putting that fence in now and putting it in two years from now.
